Musical Director​​

​The conductor of the Stapleford Choral Society is Adam Pounds, who was born in London in 1954. As a student he studied at the London College of Music where his principal subjects were composition, classical guitar, oboe and conducting. He studied conducting with the international conductor Christopher Fry. While he was at music college, he won the composition prize and then became a student of Sir Lennox Berkeley.

 

He later continued his studies at Goldsmith's College, London where he achieved a BMus.(Hon) and later an M.Ed from Trinity Hall, Cambridge. He founded the Nelson Orchestra in 1981 in Waltham Forest and after moving to Cambridge he formed the Academy of Great St. Mary’s and was also appointed conductor of the Stapleford Choral Society.

As well as being a busy conductor, Adam has also composed a great deal of orchestral music, much of which has been performed by the Academy of Great St. Mary’s.
